  Assignment follows attendance boundaries, and open enrollment is a separate process with its own timeline. Confirm the assigned school for the specific address rather than the neighborhood.
• Gather the documents Colorado will ask for

  Identity, Social Security number, and Colorado residency proof. Having these in one folder turns two DMV trips into one.

One item here is a legal deadline. The rest is what makes the place function.

• Get your Colorado driver license

  This is the tightest clock in the whole move and the one people miss. New residents must transfer within 30 days of establishing residency. Appointments fill up, so book before you arrive if you can.

  Bank, employer, insurance, subscriptions, and USPS forwarding. Forwarding is a bridge, not a fix; it expires.

  Every rental property in Boulder is required to maintain a valid rental license, long-term meaning rentals of 30 days or more. An unlicensed unit is the landlord's problem, but it is a signal worth knowing about before you sign.

  Curbside composting is a normal part of city service here rather than an add-on, and the sorting rules are enforced more seriously than most newcomers expect.

The vehicle deadline is the one with a running meter attached.

• Register your vehicle in Boulder County

  New residents get 90 days. Registration is handled by the county Clerk and Recorder for the county you live in, not by the state DMV office. Late registration carries a fee of $25 per month or part of a month, capped at $100, so a forgotten registration quietly costs real money.
